The Unsinkable R.B.G. by Gail Collins

“Ruth Bader Ginsburg (U.S. Supreme Court Justice) isn’t going anywhere soon…”

Questions asked by M.S. Collins of Justice Ginsburg about retirement were rather evasive, such as the following: “But John Paul Stevens: didn’t step down until he was 90.”

“Ginsburg herself isn’t given to romanticizing.  Asked why the women’s rights revolution happened so quickly, she simply said: ‘Well the tide was in our favor.  We were riding with winners.”

Two sentences with two metaphors: “Well the tide was in our favor.  We were riding with winners.”  We would have to ask the justice whether she was using surfing metaphors or one metaphor of the sea and the other about riding winning horses.  I think it’s the first, but I didn’t know that the justice swam in the ocean.
