Vladimir Putin’s Playbook: Using Military Force Inside Another Nation

Aspen’s Homeland Security Program, by Dan Bayer

“On Russia/Ukraine/NATO, for example, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Martin Dempsey told Lesley Stahl from ’60 Minutes’:  ‘You’ve got a Russian government that has made the conscious decision to use military force inside of another sovereign nation to achieve its objectives-first time, I think, probably, since 1939…(Vladimir Putin) has a playbook that has worked for him two or three times.  And he will continue to use it.”

A playbook is a sports idiom denoting a book of plays for the team. For more information, go to http://www.sportsidioms.com and write in the idiom playbook and click for the original meaning of the term and the  derived uses, including sentences.  In the sense of the above article, President Putin’s  military force inside Ukraine is just one tactical move in his “playbook.”

I just heard a comment about Vladimir Putin: He was born on third base, but thought he hit a triple.  Third base is an advanced position in baseball.
